Welcome post
Hi! This is a place for
me to spew out ideas whilst also giving you an idea of where my Art stems from
and what it’s about. The truth is, Art and Painting are a real obsession of
mine, which I never stop thinking about. The thing that interests me most is how
we see the world around us and how this can be put across with paint. In my
case its oil paint that I use most of the time, but if I didn't have access to
oils, I would use any other paint or media to express myself.
As a child, I would draw all the time, with little understanding of colour. It wasn't until I was in my early 20s, at Winchester Collage of Art, that I started to paint in oils. That is where my interest (obsession) with the painting process and colour theory started. I found colour so difficult to get my head around at the beginning, that trying to understand and harness its vast wonder has become a lifelong preoccupation. It may be obvious in my work that sometimes I'm a bit like a kid in a sweet shop when it comes to colour. Sophistication and the idea of a limited colour pallet fly's out the window; however, it’s important to me that every painting session is fun, exciting, and challenging in its own way - a feeling of freedom and of moving forward.
Sometimes I experiment with a limited colour palette, with muted greys, and sometimes I just express raw freedom and fly by the seat of my pants. Throwing together loud and crude colours as the mood takes me. I pulsate between being sensitive and authentic to nature and being loud and obnoxious with the paint.
I plan on this blog being a little bit like a diary that documents my thought as my art practice evolves. I hope you enjoy it.
